Doug will be talking about all things RAID! RAID, an acronym for redundant array of independent disks or also known as redundant array of inexpensive disks, is a technology that allows high levels of storage reliability from low-cost and less reliable PC-class disk-drive components, via the technique of arranging the devices into arrays for redundancy.

We have a CPLUG meeting tonight (4/13/2010) at ITT…

Vik will be talking about Apache CouchDB. CouchDB is a free and open source document-oriented database written in the Erlang programming language. It is a NoSQL solution designed for local replication and to scale vertically along a wide range of devices. The documents in a collection need not share a schema, but retain query abilities via views. Views are defined with aggregate functions and filters are computed in parallel, much like MapReduce.

After that, Nathan will be doing a lightning talk about OpenDS. OpenDS Software is a free, open source directory service, written in Java, and developed as part of the OpenDS project. OpenDS Software implements a wide range of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and related standards, including full compliance with LDAPv3 but also support for Directory Service Markup Language (DSMLv2).

Feel free to RSVP on the Central PA Linux Meetup page.

See you tonight!

The next CPLUG meeting will be on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 6:30 PM at ITT. Hopefully we won’t have yet another snowpocalypse, and we’ll actually be able to have a meeting!

The topic for March is iSCSI. iSCSI is an IP-based storage networking standard for linking data storage facilities. By carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage over long distances. iSCSI can be used to transmit data over local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can enable location-independent data storage and retrieval.

Feel free to RSVP on the CPLUG Meetup page (optional), and we’ll see you then!
