Holiday Install Fest

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012 at 6:30pm

Bring your laptops or desktop towers, and all the Linux bootables you can find. We’re going to spend the entire meeting installing Linux! This is the Open Source version of a Holiday party.

Having trouble getting started with Linux? This is your chance to watch it all happen, and maybe just get the chance to do it yourself. The room will be filled with a combination of Linux guru’s and Linux newbies.

See you there!

IPv6 November 13th

IPv6, that mysterious networking protocol that it seems everyone has an opinion about. It stands as one of the most misunderstood concepts in technology today.

Ever wish you could connect directly to your home computer, but figured the only way was with a public v4 address or a VPN solution? IPv6 has more to offer than 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses.

System Administrator Chris Moates will be bringing these things to light in a talk on IPv6. He will start by answering the big question, “Why do I need to know this?”. Then we will go in-depth and learn the many benefits of turning to the protocol.

The meeting will take place as always at ITT Tech Harrisburg Campus on September 11 at 6:30pm.

Pizza will be ordered at the start of the meeting.

October Meeting

This Tuesday October 9th we will have a question and answer and Linux discussion meeting. Bring your questions or something to demo. Topics will range from Android to command line tools to software classes and ideas.

We will also be previewing the new CPLUG website and Wiki. We hope to have both fully operational by January.

The meeting will take place as always at ITT Tech Harrisburg Campus on September 11 at 6:30pm

Monthly Meeting Sept 11, 2012

Due to the late notice on the upcoming meeting, the organizer, Nate Moss will be presenting on Open Source Software for Images and Photos. This is simply a modified version of a presentation he recently gave to the Lancaster County Photography Meetup Group. He will be covering a variety of Open Source programs, leaving out the Windows ones, and focusing on the possible workflows that might benefit anyone working with images.

We all wish the best for Chris Moates as he was called away on short notice. I’m sure we will be excited to learn about IPv6 at another meeting.

IPv6, that mysterious connectivity protocol that has some people excited, some scared and most confused, will all be brought to light on September 11 at our monthly meeting. Ever wish you could connect directly to your home computer, but figured the only way was with a public v4 address or a VPN solution? Monthly Meeting August 14th

Gamers often think of gaming as a proprietary only world, where open source doesn’t stand a chance. This month, CPLUG takes a look at this misconception, and just how awesome Linux gaming can be.

Long time Cplugger and Linux gamer Seth Jerome will be presenting.

Meetings are held at ITT Tech Harrisburg Campus. Pizza will be ordered as usual.

Monthly Meeting July 10th

This is very short notice, but there will definitely be a meeting tomorrow evening.

Jim Capp will be presenting Virtualization, particularly KVM and Live Migration.

Starts at 6:30pm at the ITT Tech Harrisburg Campus. Pizza will be ordered at the start of the meeting.

See you there!

Monthly Meeting June 12th

Tuesday evening June 12th, Seth Jerome will be speaking on user-friendly distros, and combining the talk with some everyday CLI (Command Line Interface).

Not familiar with Linux yet? Ever wish you could just jump into Linux and use it? This is the perfect chance to do just that. Seth Jerome is a long time Linux user, involved in CPLUG for close to 15 years. He will be showing you several options for ‘distributions’ of Linux that are easy to get started with.

This is also the perfect time to ask questions and get answers about Linux!

Pizza will be ordered at the start of the meeting for $1.50 per slice.

Hope to see you there!

Monthly Meeting – May 8th

Nate Moss will be speaking this month on inter-connectivity and compatibility  between open and closed source, using Ubuntu and Windows.

This will focus primarily on office and graphics programs, and show some web related tools as well. See first hand how compatible LibreOffice is with Microsoft Office, and how to work seamlessly across your LAN in both Windows and Linux.

Monthly meetings take place at ITT Tech at 6:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month.

April Meeting

This Tuesday, April 10th, Gino will be giving a crash course on DD. This will take place as always at the ITT Tech Harrisburg Campus at 6:30pm.

There might also be a group of ITT students there, so this could be a great opportunity to come out to either evangelize and show people your enthusiasm for the Linux world, or to find out just how fun Linux can be.

See you there!

February Meeting

The February meeting will take place on the 21st due to this coming Tuesday being Valentines day. We will open with a discussion, and then have a game networking lab (mini pre-LAN party). Bring your laptop and any and all Linux based games that you know of for the lab. This will help us figure out different configurations for networked games, and introduce us to more Linux based games that we might not have known about.

A Mr. Bruce Bourchard is looking at the possibility of starting a new LUG in the Hanover area, and will hopefully (if he can make it to the meeting) be guiding our discussion at the beginning.

I’m still waiting to hear from ITT Tech if we will have internet access this time around for the meeting. There have been some technicalities with their policies that I’m trying to work through. I’m sure we can get this resolved one way or another, but just be aware of the possibility.

See you there!
