Revision control tools and methods

In addition to Chris’ talk on user privileges, Todd Z. will be doing a presentation on revision control:

Revision control is used by many open source projects, large and small. You can use it too, to follow or contribute to those projects, or to track your config files, scripts, and whatnot. We’ll talk about various revision control tools as well as the differences between centralized and distributed systems.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 PM. Details and directions are on the meetings page.

Sudo goodness springs forth this Spring!

For the April meeting, I’ll be discussing solutions to control user privileges at the command line level.

I’ll kick things off with a basic introduction to the problem, followed by a high level overview of the most popular solutions around today. Then we’ll go into a lot more detail on how sudo helps to manage this problem effectively and cleanly. From the mundane to the obscure, most of the major functionality of sudo will be covered. The expectation is that you will be better equipped to both understand what sudo is configured to do on your system, as well as be given enough knowledge to start your own further research on the topic.

Linux loves your TV

This month’s meeting will include two talks on getting the most out of your TV with Linux.

Bob Igo will be talking about MythTV and KnoppMyth:

MythTV 0.21 will soon be released, and a new version of KnoppMyth will soon follow. Learn about some of the new features in each.

Seth Jerome will be talking about LinuxMCE:

Do you like MythTV? Have you integrated it into your daily life? Excellent. Mythtv is a wonderful platform. Now imagine this… All the functionality of your current mythtv setup, plus the ability to run multiple instances of it simply needing a network connection. Have your media follow you from room to room. Oh and did I mention, have it control your lights, temperature, telephony, and security? Let LMCE run your entire house. It is a whole home control system, using mythtv , keeping your media top of mind, and adding convenience to your everday life, as well as security.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 PM. Details and directions are on the meetings page.
